Taryn + Ben // Skaneateles, Mirbeau December Elopement
Let’s get real for a second… Weddings are expensive. Dom and I had the day of our dreams while being stingy and economical, but we still broke the bank in some areas and were very stressed out trying to pay for everything. I know some couples don’t have that experience - maybe they have higher paying jobs, are more financially secure, or have more family helping them. But for many people, the reality is that paying for a wedding can be hard. Or, if the money isn’t hard to come by - it’s hard to justify spending so much on one day. I had a few moments where I wondered if it was worth it! At the end of the day, it’s always worth it (as long as you didn’t go into debt over it) because it’s beautiful and fun. But if you just can’t fathom the idea of spending so much on one day… you’re NOT alone. I’ve had a handful of clients change their minds about their big days within a few months of planning, and I commend them for being brave and honest with themselves!
Taryn and Ben booked me for their 2020 wedding, and when she came to me with their change of plans - I was so excited for them. A wintery elopement that’s all about being together, getting married and creating some beautiful photos..? YES. Yes. yes.
These guys and their families were so great to spend so much time outside on what was a very snowy day! Taryn and Ben did their first look in downtown Skaneateles, right by the lake with giant flakes of snow duping down on them. It’s beautiful looking back, and I’m so glad they stick with it for these photos! Whenever I look at them, I sing to myself * snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes * because that’s really what happened. They stayed on eyelashes, hair, coats, cheeks, noses, flowers!
After the ceremony, we took family photos, some more couple portraits and before I knew it, the day was over! Their families enjoyed a dinner in the dining room and cake by The Cake Shop CNY, and then they headed down to the Lakehouse Pub for drinks and dancing.
It wouldn’t be a recount of the day without mentioning the amazing help that Taryn’s best friend Danielle Moran gave to all of us. Matron of Honor, Coordinator, bouquet holder, chauffeur… the list goes on! She even second shot some angles of their first look! Thanks Dani!
